Selection Criteria & Process

To be considered for LWCF assistance, the parent must:
  • Live in the LWCF service area: Chesterfield/Colonial Heights, Henrico, Richmond City, Petersburg, Hopewell and Hanover,
  • Essentials Baskets: is expecting a child and is at least 6 months pregnant or has a baby that is 12 months or younger, 
  • Baby Shower: Is expecting a child and is at least 6 months pregnant or has a baby that is 3 months or younger, 
  • Demonstrates a significant need for baby essentials, and
  • Not have received assistance from LWCF in the last 18 months.
Once a referral is submitted, it is received by our all-volunteer team. The intake process can take between 1 - 4 weeks.
  • The LWCF team will review the referral and may have an initial call with the referring person in 7-10 business days.
  • The LWCF team will contact the referred parent to learn about their situation and need.
  • If the referred parent is selected for assistance, LWCF will arrange for pick-up/delivery of baby items.
We aim to support parents in need, yet please note we are not a crisis organization. We have an intake process that can take 1-4 weeks.
